Torit Mayor bans illegal youth groups, parties

Mayor of Torit in Eastern Equatoria state issued a local order banning illegal groups, parties and picnics organized by adolescents and youth in the town.
 
Martin Odeki Ohuro said the order is to protect young people less than 18 years of age from engaging in criminal activities, , Emmanuel Radio reported 
 
He added that the order followed a public outcry due to increasing cases of misconduct among illegal groups who terrorize residents in Torit town.
 
The Mayor said the adolescents were going naked after over drinking in night parties at airfield and around Kineti River.
 
Mayor Odeki cited beating of people and forceful inscription of other young people into the illegal groups, saying the groups terrorize those who reject joining their ranks and denied them access to public places and attending class.
 
Mr Odeki said issuing of the order was to preserve public law and order to portray and maintain the good image of the state.
 
He warns that any person, institution as well as organization intending to make a party or picnic should obtain permission and approval from the Municipal council.
 
The Mayor said violators would be face penalty of 1, 300 South Sudanese Ponds, imprisonment for a term not exceeding three months or both.
