Wau authority seizes 800 sacks of expired rice

Criminal Investigation Department or CID and Metrology and Standard Bureau in Wau, Western Bahr El Ghazal seized 800 sacks of expired rice with an electric machine from a trader.
 
CID Director Jacob Monytoj told journalists on Tuesday that their personnel managed to seize trader, Zubeir Mahjoub in Hai Jalabba with large quantity of expired rice, Voice of Hope reported.
 
He added that the trader, whom he described as spoiler of community’s health in the state, packed the expired rice to new sacks to sell them to consumers.
 
South Sudan Metrology and Standard Bureau State Director Kual Deng Majak expired rice would risk human lives.
 
He said packing of expired rice into new sacks was against the Bureau’s regulations, urging citizens to be careful to avoid buying expired products.
 
Acting Police Commissioner Deng Malual Mabur described the trader’s act as a disaster, directing CID in collaboration with Wau town authority to carry out inspection in all stores to avoid such act in the future.
 
He urged all citizens to cooperate with authorities to evade the act and that the trader must be punished in order to be an example to his fellow business men and women.
 
Trader Mahjoub defended himself that the rice got wet due to rains on the way to the state.
