A candidate among four contestants for Eastern Equatoria State Assembly Speaker’s seat that fell vacant six months ago stepped down.

Acting Speaker Paul Napwon told Emmanuel Radio that MP Charles Udwar withdrew his candidature for the seat, expecting more other candidates to drop.

He noted that the main objective was to avoid problems in the Assembly because they are representing people not fighting for positions.

The Chief Whip Tobiolo Alberio Oromo said a candidate cannot inform another to step down, insisting that the State and National Transitional Constitutions and the Conduct of Business are silent about a candidate dropping from the contest.

He said they are now only depending on the decision of the SPLM as final.

MPs Severino Maira Janus, Ben Palatino Loky are interested and lobbying for the vacant seat of the Speaker that fell vacant on February 18 when Ambrose Emmanuel Ocholimoi died.

Radio Emmanuel could not access MP Charles Udwar for comments.
