An over speeding numberless business car commonly known as ‘Tipper’ on Friday afternoon killed a four year old boy in Gangara Emilia on Yambio-Nzara main road.
Grandmother Sandena Umbagbia said late Zereda Paul Towiri was running after his elder sister who was sent by the mother to collect a piece of cloth in the neighbour’s house across the main road, Anisa Radio reported.
Eye witness, Richard Dazanga stated that the car was on high speed, leading to the accident.
The culprit denied the allegation at the Police cell, saying he slowed down to normal speed about five meters ahead after noticing that small children are standing along the main road but unfortunately the boy ran in front of the car.
Traffic Police officer Joseph Adam refuted his statement, disclosing that there was no scratch or sign of breaks applied at the scene, meaning that the driver was on high speed.
He added that other eye witnesses told him that the driver was competing to overtake a land cruiser, causing the accident.
The Traffic police officer advised drivers to slow down speed to 30km per hour in towns and public places, cautioning them to keep watching on road users, especially elderly persons and small children to avoid accidents.
