Kajo-Keji primary and secondary teachers on Friday started receiving 300 South Sudanese Pounds chalk allowance for the month of September after a long time pledge in 2013 by the Central Equatoria State government.

Kajo-Keji County Information Inspector Beden Elikana Kenyi told CRN on Saturday that teachers were impressed with the implementation of chalk allowance package for the first time in history.

He added that a state tasked committee is making an effort to find the exact number of teachers for accurate payment of chalk allowance to avoid irregularities.

The Information Inspector expects academic performance improvement among pupils this year since teachers are motivated to advance their noble job.

Kiri Secondary School teacher Duku Charles commended government for the incentive, saying the best motivation to teachers is money but not a matter of verbal praises.

He decried salary delays for two or three months, asserting that they frustrate teachers’ efforts leading to poor performance.

Teacher Charles urged the government to ensure timely salary payment and provision of enough equipment.
