Torit Mayor of Eastern Equatoria revealed plans to issue orders for every household to construct pit latrines and proper management of waste in the county.
Odeki Ohuro said poor waste management would increase spread of cholera, expressing determination to improve the situation and vowed to punish those who defy directives, Emmanuel Radio reported.
He cited lack of follow-up in the implementation of orders by the former Mayor, leaving several households without latrines, warning that he would be very strict to ensure everybody abides by the orders.
Governor Louis Lobong Lojore blamed former Torit Municipal administration for poor waste management and littering of rubbish around the town without taking action.
He described the waste dumping site a long Torit-Juba highway as horrible, directing the new Mayor and his Deputy Marko Lokitoe to clean up and organize the site
The Governor directed the Municipal council to monitor waste management in the town and punish those violating health rules.
