Maban County Member of Parliament or MP in the National Legislative Assembly on Monday told journalists that Maban Defence Force or MDF militia in Upper Nile State that recently battled within is a legal unit.
David Unyo Demey Kwara said it is global especially in Africa that local communities in lawlessness situation organize themselves to defend lives and property instead of the national army.
He argued that the local Defence Unit is not odd to South Sudan because it is only designed for protection not fighting war.
MP Unyo admitted the presence of Maban Defence Force revealing that the Unit was established for protection of lives and property, not a rebellion.
The parliamentarian lamented that the ongoing war in South Sudan has no clarity and that a local Defence Unit at the community level becomes a necessity.
The lawmaker declined to disclose the command of the militia.
He called on non-governmental organizations to return to Maban County for humanitarian operations, asserting that the security situation is now normal.
MP Unyo described what happened in Maban as a misunderstanding in the barrack not a rebellion.
