Malakal Catholic Diocesan Justice and Peace Commission in collaboration with CORDAID reported that during their study in Upper Nile and Unity States’ oil regions, communities were complaining of increasing cases of miscarriage due to the pollution in their areas.
Sister Elena Balatti said the people become sick when they drink the polluted water, saying there are some toxic that has a negative impact on human health.
Sister Balatti said organizations tested the water and found that some dangerous substances for human and animal consumption.
She added that people were forcefully displaced from their areas and were not properly compensated for the land they lost.
Sister Balatti said the communities complained that they are at great loses as few non-functional hospitals and schools were built and roads constructed.
