Torit Mayor encouraged citizens to speed up the process of digging pit latrines in their homes following issuance of Municipal local order.
Stephen Osfaldo Lobali last month issued an order telling every household in Torit to dig a pit latrine in their residential areas, Emmanuel Radio reported.
The Mayor said he received reports that many citizens were responding positively to the directive.
He explained that the Municipality formed a committee headed by the Executive Officer and Health Inspector and the membership of all chiefs to monitor the process.
Mayor Osfaldo said violators would be fined 250 South Sudanese Pounds and face two months imprisonment.
The order of digging latrines was issued last month to be implemented within two months.
