UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs or OCHA warned that lack of funds would jeopardize humanitarian operations in South Sudan if the urgent needed money is not raised in the coming weeks.
It said the South Sudan Crisis Response Plan covering January to June is only 30 percent funded because the agencies received only 232 million US Dollars out of 887 million US Dollars they appealed for.
South Sudan Humanitarian Coordinator Toby Lanzer said if funds are not availed now, aid agencies would be unable to meet basic needs to keep people alive or prevent a catastrophic decline in food security later in this year.
He described the situation as tough, but that aid agencies are doing everything they can to reach people in need with relief and vital inputs for the planting season.
The Coordinator called on the conflicting parties to ensure that a cessation of hostilities is in place.
He also called on donors to come forward with the money needed now so that aid agencies have the means to help prevent a greater tragedy looming in early 2015.
