Local authorities and Sudanese refugees in Maban County of Upper Nile state agreed to live in peace and harmony after a four-day peace conference.
In a statement issued on Monday, the conference participants adopted ‘the Maban declaration for peaceful co-existence between hosts communities and refugees’ to promote dialogue in resolving conflicts between them.
The statement said both parties regretted the tragic incidents that happened in the previous months in Maban County and sent condolences to families of the victims.
They urged the government, UNHCR, Norwegian People’s Aid, other international NGOs and the donor community to support the implementation of conference’s recommendations to achieve sustainable peace in the area.
Ingassana Paramount Chief who represented the refugees, Nazir Alim Moun, requested the NGOs to support host communities and not only to focus on refugees.
The County Commissioner Samuel Joseph urged both community leaders to take the resolutions seriously and implement them with each playing their roles to achieve sustainable peace.
