Medicines sans Frontiers or MSF said heavy rains would worsen the already unacceptable living conditions and increase risk of diseases to 25 thousand people at UN compound in Juba.
MSF Emergency Coordinator Carolina Lopez said the full rainy season starting with many malaria cases would add to the already precarious living conditions in the camp and it is clear the risk for outbreaks is high.
In a statement on Thursday, she pointed out that last week MSF was forced to temporarily suspend medical activities at its clinic due to the flooding.
The Coordinator said the recent rain flooded nearly 20 percent of the area of the displaced people in UN, leaving their tents under water and destroying their belongings.
‘The major problem is the lack of space, now made worse by the flooding. People are forced to live on top of each other in extremely cramped and unsanitary conditions’, said Ms Lopez.
She called for an urgent improvement of sanitation conditions in the camp to avoid a disastrous situation.
