Members of Central Equatorial Islamic Council headed by their Secretary on Friday visited Yei and discuss with the Mayoress possibilities of opening a Zakat office in the Municipality.

Shaban Ajib Mohammad said Zakat is one of the pillars of Islam collected to help both Muslims and non-Muslims through delivery of basic services like hospitals and schools to reduce people’s suffering, Easter Radio reported.

Mayoress Cecilia Oba Tito commended the idea of creating the Zakat because it helps the community with some services.

She advised the delegation to decide on a reasonable amount to avoid overburdening the Muslim business community.

The Zakat will be collected only from the Muslim business community in Yei Municipality.
