Morobo County in Central Equatoria on Friday joint the world in green rebellion by planting trees aimed at improving environment.
The exercise was marking International Tree Planting Day celebration under the theme: ‘Plant a tree today and stop deforestation, respect nature’, Morobo Radio reported.
Morobo County Forestry Assistant Commissioner Michael Lazarus Lasu appealed for unity among the people, saying protecting environment is collective responsibility.
Agricultural Advisory Organization Director Metaloro Clement said unnecessary cutting of trees without replacement, burning of bushes, rearing of animal’s remains were major challenges facing environmental preservation in the county and in South Sudan.
Central Equatoria Governor’s Advisor on Political Affairs Jackson Abugo Gama after planting a tree in Morobo, called on the Forestry Department to focus on planting trees in other institutions.
