The government rejected particpationof  the seven formerly detained politicians in peace talks between government and SPLM/A in opposition.

Presidential Press Secretary Ateny Wek Ateny told the press on Thursday that the government and political parties resolved that IGAD communiqué on inclusive participation should be amended.

He confirmed that the government delegation to the Addis Ababa peace talks was still in Juba waiting for IGAD’s response to the proposed amendment conveyed by Chief Negotiator Nhial Deng Nhial in a rejection letter.

Mr Ateny said the government would go ahead with the talks once IGAD accepted to exclude former Cabinet Ministers Deng Alor Kuol, Kosti Manibe Ngai, Madut Biar Yel, John Luk Jok, Cirino Hiteng Ofuho, Gier Chuang Aluong and former Lakes State Governor Chol Tong Mayay.

He argued that the participation in the talks was already inclusive with the presence of USAP and SPLM-DC leaders on the government delegation.

Mr Ateny added that the seven former detainees would only be accommodated in the future national conference in Juba if invited.

The Press Secretary said the government has no option to the negotiations other than peaceful settlement.
