Monday witnessed a drama in Eastern Equatoria state Assembly as the acting Speaker read an announcement, inviting Women MPs to a one-day workshop.

The Civil Affair Division of the UNMISS organized an advocacy forum on women, peace and security on March 28, Emmanuel Radio reported.

Tobiolo Oromo disapproved the choice of only women to attend the forum, but MP Nasike Allan Lochul moved a motion for him to withdraw the statement.

She defended that women MPs were capable of handling matters of national concern.

Several members increased pressure on the Chief Whip, claiming that the statement undermines women and divides the assembly.

Realizing the rising pressure in the Augus House the acting speaker Paul Napwon forced the Chief Whip to comply.

The Transitional Constitution of Eastern Equatoria Article 17, clause 1, states that women shall be accorded full and equal dignity with men.
