Malakal Catholic Diocesan Justice and Peace Program Coordinator said some conflict victims regretted voting for the independence of South Sudan due to the suffering they are undergoing.

Jokino Othong said some people were saying they would not come back to South Sudan if they leave the country.

Mr Othong lamented that the situation of Malakal was a violation of the ceasefire agreement signed, showing that the conflict would continue for long.

The Program Coordinator grieved that even if peace returns to the country, people would not return immediately due to fear.

Mr Othong added that it would also be very hard for people to resettle in Malakal due to fear of fresh attacks and dead bodies still lying in the town.

Mr Othong lamented that the crisis interrupted South Sudan struggle to improve education system.

Program Coordinator said having children going for one or two years without education would negatively impact on the people.
