Wau Municipality authorities recovered a hand grenade at Wau Mosque in Jou Market, one of the most populous Muslim prayer centers in Western Bahr El Ghazal.
Wau Town Mayor Arkangelo Anyar Anyar told Voice of Hope on Friday that the weapon was safely recovered before causing harm.
He said the grenade was place at the entrance pole of the mosque during evening worship hour on Thursday.
Mr Anyar said the grenade and other explosives never happened at places of worship in Wau.
He advised Muslims not to be afraid as security organs would investigate and find out people behind the move.
WBG Islamic Council Secretary General Mohamed Isa Ali said the incident was not planned to cause harm to Muslims, but one of their brothers might have placed the weapon there and went into the Mosque to pray.
Authorities could not trace correctly the intention of the culprit placing such a deadly weapon at the entrance of the Mosque.
