Torit Catholic Christians on Wednesday joined the world to commemorate the Ash Wednesday marking the beginning of the forty-day Lent period.

Presiding over Ash Wednesday Eucharistic celebration at Saints Peter and Paul Parish, Fr Jackino Lomogo said Lent season reminds Christians of their spiritual weaknesses, Emmanuel Radio reported.

He described placing ashes on Christians’ foreheads as an indication of a sinner in need of the mercy of God and a call to live in a hope of restoration.

Fr Lomogo stressed that the ash is a symbol of dying with Jesus on the cross and rising with him on Easter Day.

He called on Christians to intensify prayers and renewal their faith during Lent.
