Western Bahr El Ghazal State Legislative Assembly members voted out Finance minister for failing to implement the 2013/2014 budget.

The decision came after Lilian Valentino Rizik declined to respond to a summon requiring her to answer budget and salary implementation questions, Voice of Hope reported.

34 MPs out of 43 opted unanimously for a vote of no confidence for the removal of Finance Minister on Wednesday’s heated session ever in the Assembly.

Speaker Andrea Acho Mayor commended the decision of the assembly as lawful, saying the minister did not respect the role of the legislature.

Assembly Deputy Finance Committee chairperson Ali Delil Ibrahim said the minister was summoned four times and did not show up.

He added that the decision would help discourage other ministers from disobeying the parliamentary summons.

The Minister of Finance in her letter dated 26 Feb addressed to the speaker apologized to the House for non compliance due to sickness requesting the sitting to be adjourned to March 3.

The parliament however, dropped Minister’s apology and proceeded with the unanimous vote of no confidence.

This is one of the bold decisions ever taken by the state assembly in WBG as representatives of the people.
