Yei River County Education Director blamed state government for downsizing teachers without replacement, leaving some schools with few teachers.
Philip Taban told Easter Radio on Tuesday that downsized teachers left some schools closed and that out of fifteen schools in Tore Payam, only nine were operational due to the downsizing exercise.
The director explained that the state government gave over 200 vacancies for citizens to apply, but only about 100 teachers applied.
Mr Taban said many vacancies still exist, but some teachers are reluctant to apply because of what they describe as “low grades”.
He urged citizens to apply for the teaching profession in order to boost education in the county and the nation at large.
Tore Payam Chief Anthony Amedeo Mauya decried government’s unplanned downsizing that left some schools with few teachers in the payam.
