Minister Foreign said the Uganda People’s Defence Force or UPDF will stay in South Sudan to continue hunting for the Lord’s Resistance Army or LRA.
Barnaba Marial Benjamin on Monday told journalists that the African Union or AU approved UPDF in 2008 after the peace talks between the Uganda government and the LRA failed, Bakhita Radio reported.
He said the Ugandan army would continue to pursue the LRA in the region.
Dr Marial said UPDF presence in South Sudan was a legal process agreed upon not only by African Union, but between South Sudan and Uganda governments.
He added that UPDF helped many countries including USA, UK and some East African countries to evacuate their citizens at Juba International Airport.
The minister said the Uganda Forces protected many important infrastructures in South Sudan.
