The International Committee of the Red Cross or ICRC called on conflicting parties in South Sudan to respect obligations under international humanitarian law.
In a statement, ICRC said the conflicting parties must ensure that civilians should be spared from all forms of violence.
ICRC’s delegation head in South Sudan Melker Mabeck said, ‘We are shocked by the recent reports of violence targeting civilians and people who are no longer taking part in the fighting, of deliberate killings and sexual violence.’
He expressed concerns over reports that health facilities were destroyed and patients attacked at hospitals.
The ICRC warned both parties to ensure that health personnel and humanitarian workers are respected and allowed to carry out their duties.
Mr Mabeck urged the warring parties to spare humanitarian workers’ property, facilities and vehicles.
He said thousands of people remained without shelter and food, water and medical care because of the precarious security conditions and fear of being attacked.
