A legislator challenged the Speaker of the National Legislative Assembly over what he termed ‘unfair composition’ of delegation to Uganda parliament.

Gabriel Guot Guot of United Democratic Salvation Front or UDSF representing Malual-Aweil North County of Northern Bahr El Ghazal said there was no female representation in the four-member delegation and all members were SPLM.

He said such unfair representation was a technical error that could project bad image of the parliament internationally.

Government Chief Whip Odongi Tulio Ayahu said Uganda People’s Defence Force or UPDF gave invaluable support to save the nation after a huge number of government forces defected to the opposition.

He maintained that Uganda army should not withdraw from South Sudan.

Mr Odongi said there was no need to cover up the 70 percent of the organized forces who were previously militias and defected to opposition forces.

MP Deng Dau Deng of Twic East County of Jonglei State criticized the Chief Whip for revealing 70 percent defection in the army, saying it was dangerous to national defence.

He said such revelation was shocking and that the leader should have downplayed the number of defectors.

The Office of the President earlier told the media that UPDF would be redeployed to Western Equatoria State as required by Cessation of Hostilities agreement.

CRN could not independently verify the redeployment or the progressive withdrawal.
