Twenty six humanitarian organizations and NGOs including World Campaign and Mercy Corps appealed to US Administration to fulfil the existing peacekeeping commitments in South Sudan.
The appeal addressed to Secretary of State John F. Kerry and Director of Office of Management and Budget Sylvia M. Burwell called on the Administration to ensure that peacekeeping operations in South Sudan halt the violence, protect civilians and stabilize the country.
Better World Campaign Executive Director Peter Yeo said “the humanitarian community is petitioning the Administration to dig out of the red on our UN peacekeeping dues and help restore stability in the world’s most vulnerable nations”.
He added that “as the Security Council prepares to consider a peacekeeping mission in the Central African Republic, American influence will be strong if–and only if–the U.S. is prepared to share the burden.”
