The Office of the President of the Republic on Friday said Uganda People’s Defence Force or UPDF finished their mission and would redeploy to Western Equatoria to hunt the Lord’s Resistance Army or LRA rebels.
Presidential Press Secretary Ateny Wek Ateny told journalists that the UPDF who were invited by President Salva Kiir to rescue Ugandans trapped in Jonglei State did not fight in other parts of the country.
He dismissed reports of SPLM-N and Justice Equality Movement or JEM rebels of Sudan supporting SPLA against the opposition forces.
Mr Ateny said there were no allied foreign rebels fighting alongside government forces.
He suspected that SPLM-N and JEM rebels could be backing up forces loyal to Dr Riek Machar.
The international community, IGAD and SPLM/A in opposition are pressing for the withdrawal of UPDF from South Sudan according to the Cessation of Hostilities agreement to avoid regional conflict.
