United Nations or UN Secretary-General on Wednesday welcomed the start of the peace talks between government and SPLM/A in opposition.
Ban Ki-moon in a statement issued by the spokesperson on Wednesday stressed the need for the parties to adhere to the Cessation of Hostilities and the Status of Detainees agreements signed on January 23.
‘The Secretary-General reiterates the importance of national political dialogue, with the participation of all South Sudanese political and civil society representatives, including all senior SPLM detainees,’ said the statement.
The spokesperson added that Ban Ki-moon was deeply concerned with reports of the ongoing fighting and skirmishes in parts of Unity and Upper Nile states.
The Secretary-General called on all parties to respect lifesaving work and ensure freedom of movement of the UN Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS and all humanitarian workers.
Mr. Ki-moon condemned the use of cluster bombs in the fighting, remnants of which were found by UN Mine Action Service or UNMAS on Juba-Bor road in Jonglei state.
