Western Bahr El Ghazal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Animal resources launched a two-week exercise to assess animals’ health fitness.

The campaign targets more than 600 horses and donkeys pulling water and other goods within the state, Voice of Hope reported.

State Veterinary Director Jihana Adam Adei said the campaign will assess and establish animals’ health status as preventive measures.

Dr Adam explained that animal owners shall be issued health fitness certificates with specific tons for each animal to carry.

She clarified that a healthy horse would be allowed to carry only two tons and one ton for a donkey.

The Director called on horses and donkeys’ owners to care for their animals since they are source of revenue generation.

She added that animals have rights to good feeding and proper health care, saying the ministry was concerned about animal basic rights.
