Nigeria promises to assist South Sudan

The Vice President of the Republic on Tuesday revealed that Nigerian President pledged to extend humanitarian aid and scholarships to the country.
 
James Wani Igga said he and Education Minister John Gai met President Goodluck Jonathan in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and discussed the genesis of crisis including the need to provide basic services like primary, secondary and university education.
 
He added that the humanitarian assistance would target conflict displaced persons.
 
The Vice President said the promise would be followed up for realization.
 
Mr Wani Igga called for massive education to combat illiteracy.
 
He estimated that South Sudan illiteracy stands at 90 percent including members of parliament of various parties.
