Médecins Sans Frontières or MSF strongly condemned the looting of its facilities on Thursday in Bentiu, Unity State.

The organization in a statement said the ‘looting jeopardizes MSF’s operations in Bentiu and endangers the humanitarian response to the ongoing violence.’

MSF General Director Arjan Hehenkamp said ‘it is unacceptable that one of the only humanitarian organizations still providing assistance to the population in Bentiu has been looted.’

He called on all parties to respect the integrity of medical facilities and allow patients to reach medical facilities.

MSF Head of Mission in South Sudan Raphael Georgeu said ‘thousands of people have no access to water, food and healthcare in Bentiu and surrounding areas.’

He added that the organization would not resume its operations in Bentiu until the security of patients, staff and facilities was guaranteed.
