The International Committee of the Red Cross or ICRC condemned the deplorable situation of the displaced in the country.

ICRC President Peter Maurer, who visited the country to assess the humanitarian situation and response, said displaced people need more urgent assistance, Bakhita Radio reported.

He said ICRC treated a very huge number of people in the country and yet another unknown number of people need to be accessed.

Mr Maurer said he witnessed many displaced men, women and children in various UN compounds with nothing to help themselves.

He said people need food, water, sanitations, medical supplies and shelters urgently.

ICRC President said the ICRC spent 30 percent of its 2014 budget in the last three weeks.

He said there was still constant influx of wounded people into the ICRC facilities seeking treatment.

Mr Maurer called on the warring parties to resolve their differences peacefully, respect international humanitarian laws and save civilians’ lives.

He called on the donor community to positively respond to the crisis in South Sudan.
