UNMISS dismisses rumours of favouritism

The United Nations Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS dispelled rumours that the Mission was bias in handling the political crisis in the country.
 
UNMISS head Hilde Johnson said the Mission has only one impartial way of implementing its mandate in South Sudan, Bakhita Radio reported.
 
She said the rumours that UNMISS was bias and supported only one party was totally wrong.
 
Ms Johnson clarified that the international community of which UNMISS is part, believes that political power cannot be achieved by violence.
 
She said UNMISS will stick to its mandate and ensure it protects and delivers services to civilians.
 
UNMISS head explained that the Mission received 240 robust police force with capability to work in a difficult environment.
 
Ms Johnson said they expect to receive another 150 police force on Thursday.
 
She added that next week 340 more peacekeepers will arrive to supplement the peacekeepers already on the ground.
 
Ms Johnson said the Mission was also expecting more battalions from some African Peacekeeping Missions.
 
UNMISS head expressed Mission’s optimism on the ongoing peace talks in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
 
She said the delegations’ direct negotiation was a sign of peace to the country.
