United Nations or UN warned that its relief supplies available for the thousands of civilians taking refuge in the Bor, Jonglei State compound were running low.

UN Spokesperson Farhan Haq said ‘the resupply of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS Bor base is becoming a critical issue. Medical capacity continues to be severely overstretched’, UN Digest reported.

He confirmed that three helicopters on temporary loan from the UN peacekeeping Mission in DR Congo were deployed to Juba on Monday to reinforce peacekeeping in the country.

The spokesperson said the effort was part of a Security Council plan to double the Mission’s armed strength to nearly 14 thousand to protect civilians in South Sudan.

Mr Haq said the UN’s humanitarian wing was also reinforcing its ability in Juba and other key areas including Awerial in Lakes state.

UN officials repeated a call for a cessation of violence and a political solution to the conflict, including accountability for grave human rights violations.
