SPLA Brigadier defects with troops in Yei

Sudan People’s Liberation Army or SPLA Brigadier in Yei River County defected to join forces loyal to Riek Machar.
 
Yei Mayor Oba Cecilia Tito confirmed that Brigadier Peter Taab defected with a 30 soldiers on Saturday night, Easter Radio reported.
 
She said Brigadier Taab’s forces fired bullets into the air at around 10 PM to pave way as they moved to Mukaya Payam in Lainya to join their colleagues who defected in Mundri County of Western Equatoria State.
 
The Mayoress said two soldiers and one young girl wounded in crossfire were receiving treatment at Yei Civil Hospital.
 
Mayoress Oba assured residents that security was under control, urging them to return to their homes as the defectors already fled the county.
 
She called upon organized forces to report to their various units and that only those on duty and joint operation forces would be allowed to patrol the town.
 
The official urged all the community leaders, chiefs and organized forces to refrain from revenge and avoid intimidating and harassing residents in Yei.
