The government of Uganda urged its citizens who are still in some areas of South Sudan to remain patient and calm waiting for evacuation.

Uganda Ambassador to South Sudan Robert Rusoke told the press in Juba on Tuesday that passages for Ugandan citizens’ withdrawal were very limited due to insecurity.

He said they evacuated over 500 Ugandans by air and others by road.

Ambassador Rusoke said evacuation does not mean the situation was out of hand, but that any insecurity causes reaction.

He explained that the Embassy was evacuating its people safety and when the situation stabilizes Ugandans would return to South Sudan.

The diplomat said many Ugandans who were living and carrying out businesses in were grossly affected.

Ambassador Rusoke said the number of Ugandans who took refuge at UNMISS, Churches, Embassies and other institutions was too big to be facilitated.

He appreciated the government of South Sudan, UNMISS, United Nations Interim Security for Abyei or UNISFA and IGAD for their support and cooperation.
