Teenagers whose trousers were torn expressed discomfort with the way police handled them following Wau Municipal order banning the indecent dressing.

James Ukell Abang, a student, said he was embarrassed at Darja Market when the police cut his trousers leaving him half naked claiming he was indecent, Voice of Hope reported.

An anonymous female teenager said her tight trouser was also cut and she was given a shawl by her mate to reach home.

She said she was humiliated at the police station.

Wau Mayor Arkangelo Anyar Anyar earlier denied directing police to cut people’s clothes.

He clarified that the police were only directed to arrest people who dress indecently for investigation.

Mayor Anyar said cutting teenagers’ trousers was an individual act from the security personnel.

The Mayor on Sunday announced in the Church that the operation on indecent dressing will intensify during Christmas and that violators would be barred from entering the Church.
