South Sudan Police Service on Friday revealed a plan to deploy its forces in Juba to safeguard citizens during Christmas and New Year festivals.

Police spokesperson Colonel James Monday Enocka told the press in Juba that Inspector General of Police Pieng Deng Kuol set up a special security plan for Juba, Bakhita radio reported.

He said police authorities divided Juba into five zones and each zone would be managed by a Major General.

Colonel Monday said the Central Operation Centre would work for 24 hours to receive and share information with zone commanders.

The spokesperson said police leadership will pay specific attention to police conduct and behaviour and shall never entertain or tolerate misbehaviour and drunkenness during duty hour.

He said the Inspector General instructed all police officers not to use force against civilians and avoid inappropriate guns shooting.

Colonel Monday added that police authorities put in place mechanisms to deal with individuals who would violate orders during the Christmas and New Year.

The spokesperson said the South Sudan Police Service would work together with other security organs to ensure peace and security in the town.

He added that UNMISS police would support the national police forces.

Mr Monday said the zone commander would get a mobile number so that people of the zone can call for assistance.

He urged those who left their houses to return home, wishing all citizens in the country a happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
