An activist called for validation of South Sudan Female Teachers’ affirmative action policy 2014-2018 to rescue their situation in the country.
Asha Arabi said the latest statistical findings show that there was need to revise the female teachers’ policy in the country, Bakhita Radio reported.
She cautioned that over 50 percent of women will not take part in the development process of the country if action was not taken.
Ms Arabi added that the 25 percent threshold of the affirmative action also would not be achieved.
She said there was high need for women’s education in the country.
Ms Arabi said the enrollment of female teachers’ in primary school stands at 12.8 percent and 10.2 percent in secondary school.
She said the affirmative action policy document was developed to address female teachers’ problem in the country.
Ms Arabi said the government needed to look into five areas for female teachers including pre-service training, recruitment, promotion to management positions and protecting them.
South Sudan affirmative action policy aimed to increase enrollment in teacher training colleges, institutes and university faculties of education to promote equality in the teaching profession.
