The United Nations Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS is conducting a ten-day training to Lakes State police special protection unit to handle juvenile crimes and gender-based violence.
UNMISS State Police Advisor Ranjana Cuaunan told Good News Radio on Tuesday that the training aimed at equipping police officers to investigate and protect children in conflict with the law and address gender-based violence.
She said children and women were the most vulnerable groups in the society and needed to be protected by the law.
Lakes State Public Relations Director Mareng Deng Akuei said the training will equip police force with skills to protect children who commit crimes especially those on streets.
Colonel Deng was hopeful that the trained police officers would properly address issues of domestic violence and any kind of abuse against women.
Participants at the training workshop included female and male police officers from Rumbek Central Police.
