United Nations Children Fund or UNICEF Education Specialist said the organization was supporting the government to make teachers’ training institutes in the country functional.
Thelma K Majela on Monday told CRN said it was government’s responsibility to improve teachers’ salaries to retain them in the profession.
She said ‘teachers’ retention is quite a challenge at the moment, even the quality of teachers is an issue for the few who are there is a challenge.’
Dr Majela observed that language of instruction remains a challenge in South Sudan.
The Specialist pointed out that most teachers teach in Arabic instead of English language.
She added that quality education depends on the quality of teachers.
‘Teachers must be happy to teach, happiness obviously goes with remuneration’, the Education Specialist stressed.
