Western Bahr El Ghazal authorities are organizing a two-day peace conference in Busseri Payam between pastoralists and farmers to arrange for the coming dry season.

Jur River County Commissioner John Arop Apai told the press on Thursday that the Friday conference aimed at setting resolutions to avoid conflicts between Warrap pastoralists who annually bring their cattle to Western Bahr El Ghazal, Voice of Hope reported.

He said commissioners, chiefs, pastoralists and farmers of Gogrial West and East, Tonj South and North, Jur River and Wau were expected to discuss organization of cattle movement in the dry season.

The Commissioner added that the conference would implement resolutions from the previous conference in terms of compensations and direct movement of cattle away from farms.

Mr Arop reminded that there was an agreement prohibiting entry of pastoralists with guns in the state.

He disclosed plans to deploy a police force in selected areas to prevent entry of weapons to Western Bahr El Ghazal.

Commissioner Arop said farming and cattle keeping deserved special care by preaching the culture of peace to farmers and pastoralists.

Last year, residents of Wau and Jur River Counties complained that pastoralists of Warrap State had many guns and their cattle destroyed farms.
