Civil society enlightens Malakal citizens on issues report

Civil society organization Community Organizing Programme or COP enlightened people of Malakal town on how to present their issues to the government.
 
South Sudan Widows and Orphan Organization Executive Director Mary John Othou told Saut Al Mahabba that the programme aimed at linking citizens to the government.
 
She also said citizens could not report many issues affecting them including lack of water, electricity and schools to authorities.
 
Ms John said after the enlightenment citizens were able to report issues affecting them through Community Organizing Programme without fear.
 
Sobat Development Agency Programme Manager Gatweech Pur Duop said it was important to promote networking in communities to foster development.
 
Mr Pur said COP carried a survey and found that water and electricity were the major issues presented by Malakal citizens.
 
He added that during the operation, one woman returnee cried because she could not afford to pay her children’s tuition fees.
 
COP enlightenment was supported by the National Development Institute and brought together government, traditional leaders, NGOs and citizens.
