Yei River County Vice Secretary for Music, Traditional Dances and Drama urged South Sudanese to value the education of school children on music and drama nationwide.

Wani David Elias told Easter Radio on Monday that the county organized an arts competition to beef up the relationship and unity among pupils in different schools.

He added that it also aimed to develop children’s knowledge of local cultures and traditions to erase western cultures that confuse and mislead them.

The vice secretary said children were talented in many things and that if they did not perform well in the class they excelled in other practical things.

Mr Wani clarified that 20 primary schools in Yei municipality participated in six arts activities including western coral, sight singing, instrumental composition, folk songs, drama and traditional dances.

He explained that Kinji Primary became number one in western coral, Nyongwe won sight singing, Peace primary School won folks songs and Christ the King won instrumental composition.

He added that Gumoni Primary school lead in drama and Christ the King also won in drama.

Mr Wani said they will have an inter-payam competition in the near future to find out the winner that will represent the county at the state level.
