UNAMID evaluates Darfur peace implementation

More than 100 participants took part in a two‚Äìday conference last week in El Fasher, North Darfur, to evaluate and assess the implementation of the Doha Document for Peace in Sudan’s restive region.
 
United Nation – African Union Mission in Darfur or UNAMID Deputy Joint Special Representative Joseph Mutaboba said the conference aimed to build on the success of the Doha I and II Civil Society Conferences.
 
The Head of the Darfur Regional Authority Council Sultan Saad Bahr-Eldein said peace prevailed in many parts of Darfur.
 
The participants recommended strengthening the civil administration, and building roads, bridges and other infrastructure to facilitate transportation of goods from production to markets.
 
The conference also resolved to address youth’s unemployment, lack of training and drug abuse.
 
The participants recommended the eradication of extreme poverty and the empowerment of civil society to raise awareness on peace and reconciliation among Darfur people.
 
The conference brought together women and youth groups, NGOs, technocrats, community leaders, internally displaced persons and members of political parties.
