Western Bahr el Ghazal Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration or DDR Commission on Friday started distributing different toolkits to 92 ex-combatants who participated in vocational training at Mapel.

The kits include tools for agriculture, animal husbandry, auto mechanic, carpentry, electrical, masonry, plumbing and welding, Voice of Hope reported.

Western Bahr el Ghazal DDR state coordinator William Tong Uruan said the toolkits will assist ex-combatants to achieve sustainable livelihoods by using the skills they received during the training.

He added that the exercise was to encourage the ex-combatants to put what they learnt into practice to curb poverty in the country.

Mr Tong acknowledged the role of the DDR commission in helping people affected by war by giving them ways to improve their lives.

He said DDR is among the top priorities of the government aimed at promoting stability and sustainability and rightsizing of the national army to meet international standards.

The national DDR Commission is targeting 150 thousand individuals including 80 thousand soldiers and 70 thousand from the other organized forces.

National DDR is supported by World Bank and German Government.
