Youths urged communities to eradicate harmful cultural practices in South Sudan, including face marking, removal of teeth, polygamy, forced marriage and cattle raiding during a two-day youth Social Forum that ended on Wednesday in Juba.

UN Youth South Sudan President Jesus Deng said transformation has to begin with the youth to make the country a better place, Bakhita Radio reported.

He added that the youth counted for more than half of the population.

Mr Deng said the people engaged on violence in the country were all bellow the age of 45.

ACORD Country Director Stephen Wani said the Forum aimed to bring the youths together to share problems affecting them.

He added that the current generation was born during the war and had to be brought together through social gatherings.

South Sudan Youth Peace and Development Organization Executive Director Deng Augustino Koul said the forum brought together over 20 participants from the whole country and Abyei.

The youth forum was celebrated under the theme ‘Role or Dynamics of Youth in peace building and conflict transformation in South Sudan.’
