The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North or SPLM-N expressed readiness for talks on with the government technical details before conducting a polio vaccination campaign across the rebel controlled areas.

SPLM-N Secretary-General Yasir Arman on Monday said their leader Malik Agar sent a letter to the African Union mediation head Thabo Mbeki saying that they were ready for talks on the two outstanding issues for the vaccination campaign to start as scheduled, Voice of Peace reported.

Mr Arman asked the World Health Organization to bring the vaccines into the SPLM-N controlled areas.

He cautioned that if the African Union mediated a ceasefire the vaccination would be more reliable and civilians would trust and bring their children.

Earlier this month UN agencies, AU and Arab League agreed with Khartoum to carry out an immunization campaign on November 5.

Khartoum government and SPLM-N signed a humanitarian agreement on August 4, 2012 to allow humanitarian access to the SPLM-N controlled areas.

So far the agreement was not implemented as the SPLM-N wanted the aid to come through neighbouring countries and not Sudan.
