Lakes State Assembly elected Baaipath Majuec Rilpuou as new speaker to replace John Marik Makur who resigned after an SPLM caucus meeting on Saturday.
The MPs unanimously approved Baaipath as new speaker, Good News Radio reported.
Mr Baaipath commended the SPLM Caucus Chairperson Daniel Awet Akot for ending the misunderstanding between MPs and former speaker Makur.
He told the parliament that his election was not an honour but an assignment, vowing to bridge the gap between the executive and legislature.
State Governor Matur Chut Dhuol welcomed Mr Baaipath’s election and assured MPs of his cooperation.
He defended the former speaker, saying all accusations labelled against him were proven false and that his only crime was his long tenure in office.
