The President of the Republic resumed attending mass at St Theresa’s Cathedral in Kator after absenting himself for nearly a year.

Salva Kiir Mayardit on Sunday told the English mass congregation that he stopped going to the Church for prayers because one Sunday in January a senior priest attacked him on national mistakes, Bakhita Radio reported.

He accepted the mistakes blamed on him even if he did not commit them because he is the head of the state.

President Kiir said the priest should call and advise him on the matter and not to attack him in the Church during mass because the reason might be personal.

President Kiir explained that recently one bishop asked him why he was not attending church services.

He said he told the bishop the reason of his absence for prayers.

The President said he also stopped going for wedding parties and funeral prayers because opportunists take the occasions for campaigning.

The head of the state said he will start attending funeral places and wedding parties unless campaign stopped.

When he is in Juba, President Kiir usually attends the English Mass at the Cathedral.
