National legislators on Monday tabled an urgent motion on Twic East County violence resolving to summon the Minister of Defence next week to the assembly.

MP Adardit Victoria recommended that Minister Kuol Manyang Juuk be summoned to parliament to answer why the national army failed to protect civilians in Jonglei State.

She dismissed claims that the army could not protect civilians due to floods, arguing that if the army does not like the government hey should overthrow the President instead of letting many people die.

Minority Leader Onyoti Adigo Nyikwec appealed for humanitarian aid for the victims of the conflict.

He called for protection of civilians through a buffer zone with the huge presence of the army in the state.

Many lawmakers took the deliberations emotionally, demanding for the withdrawal of the presidential amnesty to David Yau Yau, the man they accused to be behind the killings, destruction and looting of properties.

MP Nhial Deng Nhial said the presidential amnesty for renegade David Yau Yau should be maintained, arguing that the amnesty remains an olive branch for peace.

The lengthy deliberations on Twic East massacre followed an urgent motion presented by MP Deng Dau Deng denouncing the appalling conditions of civilians after the attack two Sundays ago.
